Why Rive

Why not just use a video?

Most teams default to video exports or Lottie. Here's why Rive is the better call for interactive product work.

"The .riv file just worked. Our dev had it running in half a day."

RiveResponds to user input in real time

Rive animations react to hover, click, scroll, and app events via state machines. A video plays from A to B. A Rive file responds to what the user is actually doing.

RiveTiny file size, zero hosting cost

A full animated onboarding flow in Rive is typically under 200KB. The equivalent as MP4 is 2-5MB minimum. Rive runs client-side with no CDN dependency.

RiveOne runtime for every platform

Official Rive runtimes for React, iOS, Android, Flutter, Vue, Angular, and vanilla JS. Your dev implements once — it works everywhere.

RiveClean designer-to-dev handoff

State names and trigger inputs are defined in Rive and referenced directly in code. What I build is exactly what ships — no interpretation gap.

vs LottieInteractive, not just passive

Lottie exports a pre-baked timeline. Rive state machines let animations branch, loop conditionally, and respond to runtime data. For UI work, Lottie is the wrong tool.

vs VideoEvergreen, not a screenshot

A screen-recording video dates the moment your UI changes. A stylised Rive animation represents the concept — it stays relevant through redesigns and rebrands.

Process

How a project works

Most projects go from brief to .riv handoff in 1-2 weeks.

1
Brief & Scope
You tell me which product you need, share your brand assets, and we align on scope by call or email. I send a fixed-price proposal the same day.
30 min
2
Style Frame
I build 1-2 animations first and share them in Rive's viewer. You can see and interact with them in the browser before I build the rest.
Day 2 to 3
3
Full Build + Review
I complete all animations, wire up the state machines, and share everything via a Rive public link. You get 1-2 revision rounds included.
Day 4 to 10
4
Dev Handoff
You receive the .riv files, a developer doc with all state names and triggers, and a Loom walkthrough of every state. Most devs are up and running same day.
Day 10 to 14

FAQ

Common questions.

Before you reach out — here's what most people ask first.

Book a call
What exactly is Rive and why does it matter?

Rive is an interactive animation tool that produces .riv files — lightweight, runtime-powered animations that respond to user input in real time. Unlike a video or GIF, a Rive animation can react to hover, click, scroll, or app events. Unlike Lottie, it supports conditional logic and state machines.

Can our developer actually implement a .riv file?

Almost certainly yes. Rive has official runtimes for React, Vue, Angular, iOS, Android, Flutter, and vanilla JS. A standard integration usually takes under a day. I include a full handoff doc with all state names, trigger inputs, and a Loom walkthrough of every state.

How long does a project take?

Most projects are 1-2 weeks from a locked brief to final handoff. The Loading & States Pack can be as fast as 5 days. The Product Demo and Mascot projects typically run 10-14 days.

Do you work with existing brand assets or start from scratch?

Either. If you have a design system or Figma file, I'll work within it. If you're starting fresh, I'll align the animation style to your brand guidelines during the style frame phase.

Are you a team or a solo designer?

Solo. Flux Motion is me — a motion designer specialising in Rive, based in Glasgow. You work directly with the person building your animation from brief to handoff. No account managers, no handoffs between team members.

Do you offer retainers?

Yes. After a completed project, most clients want ongoing animation work. I offer monthly retainers from £300/month, discussed after a successful first project.
